Before Eating
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيمَا رَزَقْتَنَا، وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Allahumma barik lana fima razaqtana, wa qina 'adhaban-nar.
O Allah! Bless what You have provided us and save us from the punishment of the Fire.
Sunnah
After Eating
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا، وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ
Alhamdulillah illadhi at'amana wa saqana, wa ja'alana Muslimin.
All praise is for Allah who fed us and gave us drink, and made us Muslims.
Sunnah
Before Sleeping
بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya.
In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.
Upon Waking Up
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Alhamdulillah illadhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilaihin-nushur.
All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us and unto Him is the resurrection.
When Entering One's Home
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ الْمَوْلِجِ وَخَيْرَ الْمَخْرَجِ ... وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا
Allahumma inni as'aluka khayral-mawliji wa khayral-makhraji... wa 'ala Allahi rabbina tawakkalna.
O Allah, I ask You for the best of entry and exit. In the name of Allah we enter and leave, and upon our Lord we depend.
When Starting a Journey
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا ... وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ
Subhan alladhi sakhkhara lana hadha... Wa inna ila Rabbina la-munqalibun.
Glory to Him who has subjected this to us... And indeed, to our Lord we will return.
When Looking in the Mirror
اللَّهُمَّ كَمَا حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِي فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِي
Allahumma kama hassanta khalqi, fa hassin khuluqi.
O Allah, just as You have made my features beautiful, make my character beautiful.

2. Prayer & Worship (Salah)

Dua after Ablution (Wudu)
أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ... وَرَسُولُهُ
Ashhadu an la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu.
I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone... and Muhammad is His Messenger.
The Opening Dua of Salah (Sana)
سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ ... وَلَا إِلَٰهَ غَيْرُكَ
Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdika... wa la ilaha ghairuk.
How perfect You are O Allah, and I praise You... None has the right to be worshipped except You.
Dua while in Prostration (Sujood)
سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى
Subhana Rabbiyal-A'la.
How perfect my Lord, the Most High.
Dua for Seeking Guidance (Istikhara)
A special prayer performed when unsure about a decision: pray two rak'ahs then recite the masnun dua of Istikhara.

3. Seeking Protection & In Times of Difficulty

Dua for Anxiety and Sorrow
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ ... أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الْقُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي ...
Allahumma inni 'abduka ... an taj'alal-Qurana rabi'a qalbi ...
O Allah, make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my grief and anxiety.
Dua for Distress
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
La ilaha illa anta, subhanaka, inni kuntu minaz-zalimin.
None has the right to be worshipped but You; Glory to You. Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers.
Protection from Harm
أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
A'udhu bi kalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq.
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
When in Fear of People/Ruler
اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعِ ... وَلَا إِلَٰهَ غَيْرُكَ
Allahumma Rabba-samawati-sab'i ... wa la ilaha ghairuk.
O Allah, Lord of the Heavens and the Mighty Throne, be my protector against harm and transgression.

4. For Blessings, Repentance & the Hereafter

Dua for Repentance (Istighfar)
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ
Rabbighfir li wa tub 'alayya, innaka antat-Tawwabur-Rahim.
My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance. You are the Acceptor of Repentance, the Most Merciful.
Dua for Parents
رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
Rabbir-hamhuma kama rabbayani saghira.
My Lord, have mercy upon them (my parents) as they brought me up when I was small.
Dua for Righteous Spouse & Children
رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ ...
Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa dhurriyatina qurrata a'yun...
Our Lord, grant us from among our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us leaders for the righteous.
Dua for Good in this Life & Hereafter
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar.
Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the Fire.
Dua for the Deceased (Janazah)
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا ... فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى الْإِيمَانِ
Allahumma-ghfir li hayyina wa mayyitina ... fatawaffahu 'alal-iman.
O Allah, forgive our living and our dead... cause us to live and die upon Islam and faith.

5. From the Quran

Dua for Knowledge
رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
Rabbi zidni 'ilma.
My Lord, increase me in knowledge. (20:114)
Dua for Patience
رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا ...
Rabbana afrigh 'alayna sabran wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna 'alal-qawmil-kafirin.
Our Lord, pour upon us patience, make our steps firm and grant us victory. (2:250)
Firmness in Faith
رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا ... إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ
Rabbana la tuzigh qulubana ... innaka antal-Wahhab.
Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after guidance and grant us mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower. (3:8)
